Got any big plans for the weekend? My son has a state marching band contest in San Antonio on Saturday, but I’ll be staying home and playing a Halloween symphony concert and music for  a screening of The Wizard of Oz . I need to watch that movie. It’s been 40 years since I saw it, and all I remember is that the flying monkeys scared the shit out of me. It’s a tough score, too.

Tonight is trick-or-treating in my neighborhood because lots of places in PA do it on a weekend and not Halloween. So I'm not going home after work today because I am like the Ebenezer Scrooge of Halloween. It's my least favorite holiday.

I will help escort the first F/A-18A airframe (Hornet 1) to its new home after a six-month volunteer-led restoration.

Work tomorrow (hurray retail) and then a Halloween party at friends after work. I don’t do costumes, nor do I give a single fuck about Halloween, so the party is going to be super fun times...

And I can’t even enjoy candy anymore anyway due to my recent dietary issues, so I have even more reason not to care about this insipid commercialized excuse for gluttony and debauchery.

Yes, I am the life of any party I attend, why do you ask??? Sigh...

Doing Wizard of Oz is kind of like playing a B’way show with singers who don’t watch or listen. Which is really nothing new, but it’s a challenge.

Take the dog to dogtopia for an interview (pet ownership is weird sometimes,) go to a jiujitsu seminar, do family laundry, ge t wet in the rain, swap out a good turntable for good restored vintage turntable (and spin some Frank Sinatra,) think about my lack o f diet and order some pizza.

Youuuuuu mean area qualifiers for State, right? Because my calendar has State on the Monday and Tuesday after NEXT weekend.

I just arrived in Midland an hour ago, driving from EP. Our 6A qualifier is tomorrow...fourteen competing for two spots at State. What classification is your son's school?

Yes, you are correct. I’m still catching up on the terminology, and the every-two-years aspect of this. We are 6A, and my son is a sophomore, so we didn’t do this last year. I have no idea how many bands are playing in our area , or how many will advance. We play right after Claudia Taylor Johnson, which is not exactly where we want to be.

Next weekend is the BOA Super Regional in San Antonio. Our band plays on Friday, so my wife and I will be going down to pit crew so we can get in free (BOA tickets are a racket) . I can’t go back on Saturday because I have two opera rehearsals (Otello).
